Project Overview
We kicked off by overhauling the network closets—tearing out disorganized, undocumented cabling and rebuilding patch panels for a clean, maintainable foundation. From there, we: Wi-Fi 6 Upgrade & AP Deployment: Replaced legacy Wi-Fi 2 with Wi-Fi 6, installing both indoor and ruggedized outdoor access points to achieve 100% coverage inside the buildings and across the parking lot—ensuring technicians had reliable connectivity while servicing vehicles. Switch & Backbone Enhancements: Deployed multiple PoE switches to power APs and cameras, and upgraded uplinks to 10 Gbps for future scalability. Camera System Rollout: Indoor & Exterior Cameras: Ran CAT6 through tight conduits and ceiling plenums. Parking Lot Coverage: Leveraged a UniFi point-to-multipoint wireless bridge to extend surveillance without trenching. Remote Zones: Extended wired runs across opposite wings with weatherproof enclosures. NVR Integration: Deployed an enterprise-grade Network Video Recorder with redundant storage to centralize and archive all camera feeds.
Key Challenges
Closet Rebuild: Fully re-cabling IDFs was essential to support new APs, cameras, and switches without risking downtime.
Physical Constraints: Routing additional CAT6 and power for both indoor and outdoor APs and cameras through existing tight conduits and low-clearance ceilings required careful planning and specialized tooling.
Coverage Requirements: Ensuring seamless handoff between indoor and outdoor APs so technicians could maintain Wi-Fi even when working on cars in the parking lot.
Power & PoE Budgets: Balancing PoE loads across multiple switches to power high-density APs and cameras while maintaining optimal backhaul capacity.
Distance & Reliability: Aligning high-gain antennas for the parking-lot wireless bridge to deliver stable links under adverse weather conditions.
